August 28th , 2018, the signing ceremony of scientific research cooperation between Airbus (Beijing) Engineering Technology Center Co., Ltd., Northwest Polytechnic University and Xi’an Bright Laser Technologies Co., Ltd.?was held in BLT’s Xi’an New Area. Airbus (Beijing) Engineering Technology Center has signed scientific cooperation agreements with Northwest Polytechnic University and Xi’an Bright Laser Technologies Co., Ltd. separately. This marks BLT’s move from being Airbus’s sole supplier of additive manufacturing in Asia to being a “joint R&D partner”. BLT will use four BLT series Metal AM printers to provide Airbus company with a complete set of solution?of?metal additive manufacturing, which integrates new materials, rapid prototyping technology and optimization design.

Michel TRAN VAN, General Manager of Airbus (Beijing) Engineering Technology Center, Learning BLT’s Metal 3D Printing Equipment

Michel TRAN VAN, General Manager of Airbus (Beijing) Engineering Technology Center, Professor Huang Weidong, Director of State Key Laboratory of Solidification Technology, Northwest Polytechnic University, Chairman of Xi’an Bright Laser Technologies Co., Ltd.?, Professor Lin Xin,?Vice Dean of Materials College?ofNorthwest Polytechnic University, Director of Key Laboratory of High Performance Metal Additive Manufacturing and Innovative Design Industry and Information Technology Department, and Professor Su Haijun , Minister of Basic Research Institute of Science and Technology Research, ?, Professor Zhang Fuli, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department, and Dr. Xue Lei, General Manager of?Bright Laser Technologies Co., Ltd.?attended the signing ceremony.

Airbus and BLT’s cooperation in the research and development of four-laser printed aircraft products. The research project will test the ability of BLT-S500, a large-format PBF-LB/M system developed by BLT, to print aircraft structural parts. The aim is to provide technical support for lightweight design and rapid prototyping of large-scale aircraft structural parts.

Michel TRAN VAN, general manager of Airbus (Beijing) Engineering and Technology Center, said: “It is a pleasure to further expand our cooperation with Northwest University of Technology and BLT. I believe that today’s tripartite cooperation project?will be able to further promote the application of?metal additive manufacturing?technology in the field of aviation manufacturing, to lead the development of new technologies in the field of aviation, and?to?contribute to the development of aviation industry in China and even all over ?the world.

Address by Director of State Key Laboratory of Solidification Technology, Northwest Polytechnic University, Chairman of BLT

Professor Huang Weidong, Director of State Key Laboratory of Solidification Technology?Northwest Polytechnic University,?Chairman of Bright Laser Technologies, said: “Today’s cooperation between Airbus (Beijing) Engineering Technology Center and Northwest Polytechnic University and?Xi’an Bright Laser Technologies Co., Ltd, is an inevitable trend for the application of metal additive manufacturing technology in aviation manufacturing, which will also promote progress and development of metal additive manufacturing technology. We look forward to a bright future together.

Dr. Xue Lei, General Manager of BLT, introduced the cooperation project

Xue Lei, general manager of Bright Laser Technologies said, “BLT attaches great importance to the cooperation with Airbus. In order to meet the product quality standard?of Airbus, only in 2017, we?invested more than 100 million yuan in Airbus projects, including optimization and upgrading of post-processing processes such as heat treatment, hot isostatic pressing, abrasive flow and inspection and testing equipment, such as fluorescence penetration, X-ray, CT scanning, performance testing, etc. to set up and ?a?complete production and process chain. In terms of management, we also constantly improve ourselves to meet Airbus’standard, such as risk management, KC management, visual?production?management, lean production and other aspects of unremitting exploration and excellence. We believe thatwe will surely achieve excellence?with excellent peers. We hope that BLT’s super large-scale metal 3D printing equipment can help Airbus a lot in innovative design and development. We are looking for?serving?more models of Airbus aircraft?in the future.

Airbus and BLT’s Research Cooperation Project Signed

Airbus and Northwest Polytechnic University Signed Scientific Research Cooperation Project

This cooperative contract is a new one in the field of aircraft new components manufacturing since “joint research and development of laser additive manufacturing of large titanium alloy components “ launched by Airbus, Northwest Polytechnic University and Bright Laser Technologies in 2014. Airbus’s cooperation with Northwest Polytechnic University and BLT is a milestone in the field of aeronautical design and manufacturing.

The cooperation between BLT and Airbus started in 2012. After five years’ efforts, in November 2017, BLT finally signed a framework and work package agreement with Airbus at Toulouse Airbus Headquarters. In that September, BLT was invited to attend the Airbus Global Supplier Conference as the only 3D printing technology supplier and to participate in on-site discussions. On April 3th , 2018, the start-up meeting of Airbus and BLT’s A330 Parts Project was held in BLT’s New Area.
